Andy Serkis Platinum Trophy

Andy Serkis Congratulates Players on Earning Their Platinum Trophy, But Nobody Seems to Know Which One

A fairly bizarre new video has appeared on the PlayStation YouTube channel. First spotted by ResetEra, the unlisted video features actor Andy Serkis congratulating players on earning their Platinum trophy. The problem is that nobody seems to know which Platinum trophy this is.

Serkis is the director of Sony movie Venom: Let There be Carnage that’s currently showing in theaters around the world and footage of the movie plays in the background of the video while Serkis says “Congratulations on earning your Platinum trophy, that’s quite an achievement. Well done.” The question is what Platinum trophy the video is referring to, as there’s no tie-in game associated with the movie. Neither Sony nor Serkis have officially mentioned the video yet, so we’re accepting answers on the back of a postcard, or alternatively, in the comments below. You can take a look at the short video clip below, provided it still remains unlisted and hasn’t been made private yet.

Venom is set to make an appearance in the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 game, apparently having a major role. Featuring both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, the “massive” game will be “a little darker” than the previous two titles with a story that continues on from Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. However, Spider-Man 2 isn’t due to be released until 2023 and it’s highly unlikely they would film a congratulatory Platinum trophy video to promote a movie that released two years prior to the game.

The most common theory amongst players is that the video is unlisted because it’s one Sony may include in a congratulatory e-mail to players who won the Platinum trophy in one of their first-party games. The most likely candidate for this is either or both of the two Spider-Man games that are already out. Sony has been sending out congratulatory e-mails to those who earn certain Platinum trophies since 2012, with the first being for Killzone 3. The rewards incentive hasn’t always worked smoothly though, with emails once being sent out congratulating players on earning the Platinum trophy for Horizon: Zero Dawn despite them never playing the game. Sony’s also had a notorious issue with many players not being able to get promotional emails like these, with no clear fix.

For the time being, we’ll just have to wait and see what game(s) the Andy Serkis video is congratulating players for. Given the recent release of Venom: Let There be Carnage in theaters, we can’t imagine it’s anything that’s too far out.
