We Are OFK Gets a Rather Unique State of Play Promotion For the Interactive Indie Band Biopic

“War…” the We Are OFK State of Play trailer begins, a gruff voice belting out a word we’ve heard in video game trailers all too many times before. “…war sucks.” The narrator goes on to crack up as they try to keep a straight face pretending to do the marketing spiel for a war game that “doesn’t have anything to do with politics or race or imperialism,” a clear jab the likes of Ubisoft, Call of Duty, Fallout, and more. From an indictment on marketing for war-based video games, to silly self-aware puns about Sony’s own State of Play broadcast, this unique trailer for the interactive animated series We Are OFK didn’t pull any punches as it introduced the concept and tone of the game. Additionally, the development team introduced the full cast of the game, including the members of the band OFK and other supporting characters.

We Are OFK follows the lives of four people in their 20s—members of the band OFK—who are living in Los Angeles and trying to break into the music industry. Across We Are OFK’s five episodes, players will engage with their lives, as well as playing out one new music video per episode, eventually making the full five song debut EP from the band, which will release simultaneously with the game.

Creative Director Teddy Dief had this to say about We Are OFK:

The first glimmer of We Are OFK came from my weird mashup of past careers… vocalist, filmmaker, RPG designer. But that mixture didn’t explode in my face thanks to actual pros from TV, pop music, and games, who shaped what it became – a rare, glittery cross-industry team! I’m wildly grateful, to the cast for letting me perform and sing with them, and to the band for letting us tell their story.

The PlayStation Blog further details what We Are OFK is about, where the villain isn’t some monstrous thing, but the struggles that real people face ever day.

We Are OFK is coming in 2022 to PS4, PS5, and PC, and the band’s debut EP will release at the same time, alongside the game.
