Here’s Your First Look at the PSVR 2 Headset

Sony Interactive Entertainment has unveiled the PlayStation VR 2 headset and the final design of the Sense controller that was first revealed earlier in January. The headset and Sense controllers were designed to match, giving off what Sony calls an “orb” look that represents the 360-degree view players will get. The design was also partly inspired by the PlayStation 5 and its peripherals, if that isn’t obvious enough.

What we know about the PSVR 2 headset

According to senior vice president Hideaki Nishino, Sony conducted extensive testing to ensure that the headset was comfortable for various head sizes. The ergonomic design apparently received a lot of positive feedback and, like the original, comes with an adjustable headband and manageable weight. The headset also features a familiar adjustable scope and headphone jack placement.

As for what’s new, the PSVR 2 headset has a new lens adjustment feature that allows players to optimize their view. Despite having an in-built motor for feedback, the device’s weight has been slightly reduced compared to the original. “It was quite a challenge to create a slimmer design with new features added to improve upon our first headset, but our design and engineering teams proved this could be possible when we saw the final design!” Nishino wrote. There’s also a new vent design that’s best explained by its lead designer, Yujin Morisawa:

When I started to work on the design for the PlayStation VR2 headset, one of the areas I wanted to focus on first was the idea of creating a vent in the headset to let air out, similar to the vents on the PS5 console that allows airflow. Our engineers came up with this idea as a good way to allow ventilation and avoid having the lens fog up while players are immersed in their VR games. I worked on many design concepts to achieve this, and in the final design, you can see there is a little space in between the top and front surface of the scope that contains the integrated ventilation. I am really proud of how this turned out and the positive feedback I have gotten so far. I hope our PlayStation fans will also agree, and I can’t wait for them to try it out.

Last but certainly not least, like the PS5 and its peripherals, the PSVR 2 features thousands of tiny PlayStation symbols in the front and back bands of the headset.

In other news, Supermassive Games is working on something called The Quarry, and here are Elden Ring’s global release times.
