Survey: 46% of US PlayStation Gamers Would Consider Game Pass if It Has Activision Games

An Xbox Game Pass Activision lineup would attract 46 percent of PlayStation gamers in the U.S., a new YouGov survey has found. The company polled 1,200 US adults and 1,200 British adults in January, with a 2.8 percent margin of error due to the sample size. An equal percentage of Nintendo gamers in the US also indicated an interest in subscribing to Game Pass should it add Activision games.

If Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard goes through, adding Activision games to Game Pass is a no-brainer. Interestingly, YouGov found that British PlayStation gamers weren’t as interested in Activision games as folks across the pond. Only 29 percent of PlayStation gamers in the UK said that they would consider subscribing to Game Pass for Activision games. An example lineup provided to respondents included Call of Duty, Crash Bandicoot, Guitar Hero, Skylanders, Spyro the Dragon, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Diablo, Overwatch, StarCraft, and Warcraft.

Unsurprisingly, Call of Duty is the biggest driving force behind players’ decision to subscribe or not. A whopping 19 percent and 11 percent of gamers in the US and UK, respectively, said that they would consider subscribing to Game Pass for Call of Duty alone, irrespective of their platform of choice.

Opinion: FTC will have its eyes on Call of Duty

Zarmena writes… Numerous analysts have said that Microsoft’s decision to make Call of Duty exclusive to its ecosystem can potentially jeopardize the deal. A recent report claims that the FTC has requested more information about the acquisition from Microsoft and it’s interested in seeing the potential impact on competition, among other things. Making a juggernaut exclusive would certainly irk regulators and YouGov’s survey result, regardless of the small sample size, is neither inaccurate nor a surprise when it comes to Call of Duty. The question is, will Microsoft risk it?

In other news, Sony’s Bungie deal seems to have generated more Twitter buzz than the Microsoft Activision deal, and Max Payne 1 and 2 remakes are in the works.
