It’s summer, the time for game reveals and announcements galore. Fans are already speculating about what the season will bring us, and hopes are high that the malaise that COVID-19 brought to the industry is finally over. However, Summer Game Fest host Geoff Keighley says viewers should rein in expectations, at least for his event.

Keighley warns that the Summer Game Fest stream, which airs on June 9 at 2 p.m. EDT, will have a few premires but will mainly focus on games that have already been announced. So, expect expanded looks at The Callisto Protocol, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, Gotham Knights, Fortnite, Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course, and others. So, viewers should set expectations accordingly.
However, with so many leaks and rumors constantly abounding, it’s hard not to start speculating about what announcements summer will bring. Will this leaker or that one be vindicated or proved to be a liar? Are the rumors around this or that title true? Surprises and disappointments are doled out in even amounts to gamers worldwide. At least that’s how it used to be.
The game reveal paradigm has shifted over the last decade. Now, information isn’t released in a massive burst at E3 with smaller reveals at other events throughout the year. Instead, now a game company can stream an announcement at any time or attach it to a State of Play, an Xbox Showcase, or a Nintendo Direct.
Fortunately, many games have been announced that we haven’t seen hardly anything about. Keighley referenced the Elden Ring trailer from last year as an example of how a reveal for an already-announced game can still be incredibly exciting.
In other news, a new Just Cause game is in development, and Street Fighter 6 gameplay has leaked.
