New PS5 Update

New PS5 Update Patch Notes Detail Expanded ALLM Settings

New PS5 update patch notes have been confirmed for the latest firmware changes. The new PlayStation 5 patch makes significant improvements for those using ALLM-capable displays. With Auto Low Latency Mode being a highlighted feature of the new HDMI 2.1 specification, many new TV owners will be happy to learn that they now have more control over when the PS5 signals to the display that a game is being played.

New PS5 Update Patch Notes: Today, July 7

  • If you’re using a TV that supports ALLM (auto low latency mode), you can adjust ALLM settings in [Settings] > [Screen and Video] > (Video Output] > [ALLM].
  • If you select [Automatic], your TV will automatically switch to low-latency mode while playing games.
  • If you select [Off], ALLM won’t be enabled, except during VRR (variable refresh rate) output.
  • This system software update improves system performance.

For those with an ALLM-supported display, having a game console automatically tell the display to change to a Game Mode or equivalent low-latency mode can be very convenient and avoids users forgetting to swap modes and suffering poorer responsiveness because of it. With the new PS5 patch, users now have further control over this feature.

If you’re not using an ALLM-capable display, then this new PS5 update won’t be that exciting for you. However, the last patch note that says “improves system performance” should offer at least a little bit of comfort. Though the PlayStation team hasn’t gone into any specifics about what exactly has improved with the system, which can be frustrating, it’s nice to know that Sony’s latest system is still being regularly polished.

In other PlayStation news, God of War Ragnarok has finally had its release date confirmed. A new Horizon Forbidden West patch rolls out with some impressive performance settings. The next Battlefield game will apparently have a single-player campaign.
