Far Cry 7 Might Be Set in Alaska – Report

At least two publications have confirmed that Far Cry 7 and a standalone Far Cry multiplayer game are both in development at Ubisoft. According to Insider Gaming, both games were one project but early on in development, they were split into two games. Kotaku has corroborated the report, adding that Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot mentioned both games internally as recently as last week.

Far Cry 7 will reportedly be single-player

The next mainline Far Cry will apparently be a single-player game with no multiplayer elements like co-op. Instead, Ubisoft plans to release the multiplayer game that Insider Gaming recons will be set in Alaska. Insider Tom Henderson claims that Far Cry multiplayer game was pitched as an extraction-based shooter set in the Alaskan wilderness. Since both games were once the same project, Far Cry 7 will presumably maintain the Alaskan setting.

According to Kotaku‘s sources, Far Cry 7 will drop the Dunia Engine for Snowdrop – the engine used for The Division 2 and Ubisoft’s upcoming Star Wars game. Apparently, Ubisoft has been eyeing a Far Cry multiplayer game for a number of years, but those ideas were either cancelled or incorporated into other projects.

Insider Gaming claims to have seen screenshots of both games, and understands that Far Cry multiplayer game will feature loot chests and extraction zones.
