Horizon 3 Gets Disappointing Release Date Update, Likely a PS6 Title

A new Horizon 3 update has made its way online, one that will likely disappoint fans. The news also points to the possibility that the game might not be ready until the PlayStation 6 is out.

What’s the latest Horizon 3 update?

In a recent set of posts from journalist Jason Schreier on Bluesky, he spoke briefly about the recently announced Horizon Hunters Gathering, the roguelite-esque new addition to the Horizon franchise. Schreier noted that the new game is what Guerrilla Games has been working on. When asked if the development team was just a small offshoot of the studio, Schreier noted it was “most of the studio.”

I believe most of the studio is on this

Another fan then asked if this meant fans could assume that a third mainline Horizon game wouldn’t be expected to launch for “a long time” in that case. Schreier then confirmed that with a simple “Yup.” While the news isn’t exactly surprising, this gives us a more concrete acknowledgement that a third Horizon game likely won’t be ready until at least 2028 or beyond, when it’ll likely be time for Sony to reveal the sixth PlayStation.

The Horizon franchise has been a massively successful one for Sony. Originally launching in 2017 with Horizon Zero Dawn, the series follows the stories of Aloy, a huntress living in a post-apocalyptic world that is overrun by robots in the form of dinosaurs and other animals.

The series has two mainline games and a ton of spin-off projects, including a VR title, a Lego-themed game, comic books, a board game, and a movie adaptation in the works.
