PS4 Support Finally Dropped by Its Biggest Game Franchise

PS4 users are in for another heartbreak as its biggest game franchise is finally dropping support after more than 12 years. Activision‘s Call of Duty was the last major annual franchise that supported last gen throughout 2025. But later this year, that’s set to change.

2025’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 officially the last game in the series to support PS4

A day ago, reports emerged that Activision was playtesting Call of Duty 2026, purportedly Modern Warfare 4, on the PS4. Like the publisher, we’re not sure of the report’s origin beyond a NeoGAF post, but we admittedly didn’t pay mind.

However, yesterday, Activision unexpectedly decided to address the rumors and confirmed that the upcoming Call of Duty will not release on the PS4.

We know we’ve said this many times before, but with Call of Duty finally ditching last gen, it really does feel like the beginning of the end for the PS4.

Player response to the news is understandably positive. PS5 players have long argued that it’s time to ditch the PS4, as its technical limitations hold back development and studios are often stuck juggling two different versions of their game on the same ecosystem.

Are any of our readers still gaming primarily on the PS4?
