PS5 Action Game Sequel Out Today on PlayStation Store With Good Reviews

Developer Frogwares has released its highly anticipated survival horror RPG on PS5 after many years of waiting. The Sinking City 2 is now available on the PlayStation Store, arriving almost seven years after the original game was released on the last generation of consoles. The sequel continues the franchise’s semi-open-world detective gameplay, taking players to 1920s Arkham.

Unlike the first game, The Sinking City 2 is a leaner, meaner affair, based on its reviews. The game has players step into the boots of Calvin Rafferty, who must tread through the darkness of Arkham to wake his partner from a coma.

Along the way, Rafferty encounters undead beings possessed by the Slither. Its linear nature also includes optional objectives and paths that can make its main campaign easier.

What are critics saying about The Sinking City 2?

At the time of writing, The Sinking City 2 has scored 79 on Metacritic with 33 reviews. Compared to the first game’s reception, the sequel is a stronger outing from Frogwares. Critics have praised the game’s tense atmosphere, narrative, and detective elements. The reviews have also commended the developer for improving on the sequel’s technical ambition.

DualShockers’ review called it “an absolute triumph,” praising Frogwares’ attempt at making a fully-fledged survival horror game. Indigo Geek’s review also sang praises for the sequel, adding that it realizes the dread of H.P. Lovecraft’s cosmic horror well. However, not all reviews were completely positive.

The Guardian’s review criticized the game’s combat design, which “undermines the intricate map design by offering no reason to take advantage of shortcuts.” The review was also critical of the game’s “overwrought dialogue” and “stiff acting.”

The Sinking City 2 is available in three editions on the PS5. The Standard edition is priced at $49.99, with the deluxe and premium editions costing $54.99 and $59.99, respectively. The deluxe edition includes the Arkham Field Kit, and the premium edition adds The Holloway Manor side mission.

The Sinking City 2 is available to download from the PlayStation Store now.
