Grand Theft Auto 6 Launch Gets Some Players 4 Days off Work, But There’s a Controversial Catch

Some gamers will get four days off around the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI. The unusual perk is tied to the launch of one of the year’s most anticipated video games. However, the offer comes with a controversial catch.

According to Variety, the U.S. Army’s 3rd Infantry Division, based at Fort Stewart in Georgia, is offering some active-duty soldiers a four-day pass around the release of GTA 6 in November.

However, the four-day pass comes with a stipulation. According to the Infantry Division, the offer is available to soldiers who sign a reenlistment contract for two to six years between August 1 and November 14, 2026.

How GTA 6 became part of an Army reenlistment strategy

GTA 6 became part of an Army reenlistment incentive program. A spokesperson for the 3rd Infantry Division, Lt. Col. Angel Tomko, said, “The idea was to have a unique incentives program that connects to what soldiers are interested in.”

According to Tomko, of the 130 soldiers eligible for the program, 20 have already reenlisted, earning the GTA 6 perk. The Lt. Col. added, “The command team, in conjunction with the career counselor, wanted to get soldiers excited to reenlist.”

Using gaming as a way to reach and engage soldiers is not new for the Army. When the U.S. Army faced recruiting challenges in 2018, the recruiters attended gaming conventions. They also launched an esports team, the U.S. Army Esports Team, with games such as Fortnite, Apex Legends, Valorant, Overwatch, and Call of Duty among its esports titles.

GTA 6 is one of the most anticipated games after years of development and anticipation. It was originally scheduled to launch in fall 2025 before its release was delayed to May 26, 2026. It is now scheduled to release on Nov. 19, 2026.
