Anticipated PlayStation 5 Shooter’s Beta Starts Today, But Not Everyone Can Play

A beta for Activision’s long-awaited PlayStation 5 shooter rolls out today, but not everyone can play it. It’s part of the publisher’s long-running blockbuster action franchise.

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta starts today for players who already pre-ordered the game ahead of its official release. The beta is in early access phase before it opens for all players in Weekend Two. Those who pre-purchased the sequel are eligible to play.

Players can also redeem a COD: MW4 beta code to enjoy the early access. If they pre-ordered a physical edition of the game, their beta codes will be printed on the retail receipt or sent via email.

Additionally, Modern Warfare 4 Beta codes can also be acquired through various promotions before the early access starts.

What’s available in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta?

Modern Warfare 4 early access beta for Weekend One offers a Campaign mission, titled Entrenched. It’s first time in the history of the franchise that a single-player mission is made available for a Call of Duty beta.

There’s a new mode called Mobility Course, where players can test their movement and shooting speed and improve their ratings inside a dedicated training facility. Weekend One features Level 1-20, allowing players to unlock new weapons, Equipment, Perks, Field Upgrades, Killstreaks, and the first five Beta Rewards.

New features include Apex Attachments and Gunny, unlocking powerful effects on fully-leveled weapons without taking up an attachment slot. Gunny helps in recommending instant builds from already unlocked attachments. During the early access beta, 19 multiplayer weapons will be available for players, according to the official blog.

As for the multiplayer experience, the early access beta offers 6 modes: Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, Search and Destroy, and new mode Inflation. There are five Core 6v6 maps available, namely Rooftops, Silkworm, Transit 213, Cachette, and Lotus.

Kill Block, a brand new adaptive multiplayer map, is also available in the Beta. It consists of an adaptive live-fire environment where modular battlegrounds reconfigure every two rounds into a new combo of three interconnected Slabs. The map is playable in classic 3v3 Gunfight or the new 10v10 variant.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta in early access will run from August 21, 2026 to August 25, 2026. The game will officially launch on October 23, 2026 for all supported platforms including PlayStation 5.
