PlayStation State of Play is returning with two back-to-back events this September. PS5 fans will get to see new reveals from anticipated and upcoming projects.
State of Play returns this week on September 3, 2026, with updates from studios and deeper dives from developers in Japan. The PlayStation State of Play will be immediately followed by the State of Play Japan livestream.
Earlier this summer, the State of Play took place in June. It focused on the awaited PlayStation 5 exclusive Marvel’s Wolverine. It also revealed a brand-new installment in the God of War franchise, with God of War Laufey.
PlayStation State of Play and State of Play Japan 2026 event details
The PlayStation State of Play and State of Play Japan will receive live broadcasts on September 3, 2026, starting at 6 a.m. PT / 9 a.m. ET / 3 p.m. CEST / 10 p.m. JST on YouTube and Twitch, according to the official blog.
The first livestream will present viewers with crucial updates and announcements from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners. State of Play will then wrap up with a new, extended look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation from Square Enix. The anticipated game recently revealed more content at Gamescom. The last installment in the Final Fantasy VII remake franchise will launch in Spring 2027.
Following immediately and hosted by Yuki Kaji, the State of Play Japan livestream will offer deep dives into various upcoming projects from studios in Japan and Asia. Fans can expect new gameplay, announcements, and much more.
Notably, Sony has not confirmed the list of games beyond Final Fantasy VII Revelation that will be showcased during the State of Play. The event’s runtime hasn’t been confirmed as well. While nothing is official yet, Sony may provide new updates on previously announced titles, including God of War Laufey, Until Dawn 2, and the Ghost of Yotei expansion. However, it’s just early speculation and should be treated that way.
The official announcement for State of Play came just a day after insider NateTheHate claimed that Sony would hold an event in September.
