PS6 Release Date Window Update Lines Up With Delay Reports

A new report has shed some light on the potential PlayStation 6 release date window, hinting that previous delay information could have been correct all along.

What is the latest update on the PS6 release date window?

In a recent post on X, insider Detective Seeds shared a previous post of his talking about the PlayStation 6 and when it might release. He had previously noted that the system will release in 2029, and doubled down on that belief this week. In his new post, he said the release date window is “showing to be spot on,” and that information he shared last year came from an engineer at the company.

The insider noted that a 2027 release date, which had been rumored before, was too early, and that he had been hearing the company is targeting a 2029 release window instead. As for 2027, the insider did note that it’s possible PlayStation’s long-rumored handheld device could come then.

Detective Seeds’ latest post seems to corroborate previous information on the PS6’s rumored release date. At the end of 2025, a report from Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson also noted that console manufacturers were considering delaying next-gen releases due to cost of production and what new consoles might end up costing as a result.

The report also suggested that the ongoing RAM price hike across the world could lead to further price hikes for PS5 and Xbox in 2026. While consoles usually follow a seven to eight-year release cycle, it seems like the general state of production and how expensive things have become could see a potential PS6 wait until 2029.
