Sequel to Hit PS5 Action RPG Gets Disappointing Reviews

A new PlayStation 5 game that serves as a prequel to a standout 2019 action role-playing game is out now, debuting to some less-than-stellar reviews.

What PS5 sequel has gotten disappointing reviews?

GreedFall 2: The Dying World, developed by Spiders and published by Nacon, is out now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game is a follow-up to the 2019 GreedFall, but serves as a prequel in the game’s story. Despite the original game receiving mixed but mostly positive reviews, the sequel has mostly been met with disappointing remarks.

On OpenCritic, the game launched to a 67 top critic average, with most scores for the game ranging from extremely low at the bottom end, to an average 6 or 7 on the higher side. Reviewers specifically critiqued some of the bizarre story choices, combat, bugs, and more.

GamingBolt’s Ravi Sinha noted that it was “bizarre” to see the direction Spiders went with the game, saying “there is some promise, but it needs a healthy amount of time and polish to develop into something worthwhile.” PlayStation Universe’s Timothy Nunes, on the other hand, noted that “once you scale the prologue, the rest of the game feels like you would expect a Spider Interactive RPG to play: likeable characters, political storylines, and straightforward exploration. Combat is its own thing, with the game giving you options to go elbows deep into a clunky but serviceable tactical system or toggle settings so that combat is mindless. The team took too big of a bite this time, and the overall quality paid for it. Still, there is a good Spider Interactive game here, but it might take you a while to find it.”

Gameliner’s Anita van Beugen was critical of the game, saying it showed potential, but “is currently a disaster due to a weak story, emotionless characters, poor combat, numerous bugs, and technical issues that Spiders must address during Early Access.” Evilgamerz’s Jeoen Janssen echoed these sentiments, noting “the game is not quite there in terms of execution, sometimes even far from it.”
