Grand Theft Auto VI leakers may be exposed after Rockstar Games filed requests with a federal court for subpoenas. The alleged GTA 6 gameplay leaks were distributed online. The gameplay, maps, and other video clips were shared in this leak. The developers are now taking action against this.
As per Variety, Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has filed subpoenas seeking information from Microsoft and Discord regarding alleged gameplay leaks for its eagerly anticipated game.
The filing took place in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on Thursday, August 20, 2026. As per the document, “copyrighted material includes but is not limited to audiovisual content, artwork, images, dialogue, or other creative elements.” Take-Two is seeking data under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act to “identify alleged infringers at issue.”
Why is Rockstar going after Microsoft and Discord specifically
According to Take-Two’s subpoena, the infringing content was first posted to Microsoft’s developer platform, GitHub. These were released by a hacker group called CyberLeek. The group has also claimed to obtain a “playable build” of the game. Since then, the videos have been cross-posted on multiple websites.
The subpoena aimed at Discord alleges that the copyrighted content was posted on the Discord Server by various accounts. A representative of Discord stated that the platform often receives DMCA subpoenas, which they review and comply with valid ones as part of standard procedure for companies like theirs.
However, Microsoft has not provided a statement regarding this. Additionally, besides the subpoenas, Rockstar Games has not provided any comment and has neither confirmed nor denied the authenticity of the alleged GTA 6 leaks.
Grand Theft Auto VI’s release has been stalled twice; however, the company is set to launch the game on November 19, 2026. This game will be available for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X consoles. Ahead of its release, Netflix will provide an extended look at the game on August 27.
