Nielsen Reveals the Top 20 Games to Watch this Holiday

It’s a good time to be a gamer, with one of the most jam-packed release horizons ever set to test gamer’s wallets this holiday season. Unfortunately, most of us can’t buy ever single game released in the coming months – especially if anyone wants to have some money left aside for the PlayStation Vita. With publishers and developers understandably concerned about whether people care about their games, Nielsen have compiled a list of the top 20 upcoming console games.

By asking 5,000 US gamers about the 5 games they are most looking forward to, Nielsen created a rough estimate of what the average gamer is planning to pick up by Christmas. Unsurprisingly, Modern Warfare 3 comes in at number one, with the finally in this generation’s most successful trilogy sure to break all kinds of records. EA’s Battlefield 3, however, only came in at number 7, with less than half as many people choosing the game as one of their top 5. Other notables include PS3-exclusive Uncharted 3 at number 11 and Resistance 3 at 17. Established franchises once again show their power, with Dead Island being the only new IP that managed to break onto the list.

Of course, there are reasons to question the true value of the survey – 5,000 is a rather small amount and, due to different release dates for the games, they are a various different stages of marketing. However, it does provide an interesting look into the mind of an average consumer going into the holiday season.
