Kojima Expresses Desire to Create Metal Gear Game Featuring The Boss

Upon being asked during his PAX Prime presentation if he wants to create more spin-offs for the Metal Gear franchise (alongside Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance), Hideo Kojima stated he’d love to see The Boss (mentor of Big Boss) as a lead character if such a spin-off was to materialize.

I’m not a huge fan of spin-offs, so it’s hard to say at this point. We’ve talked previously about a game featuring The Boss as a main character. This is something I’d really love to make.

Kojima added that if such a game does ever come into fruition, the title will be a part of of the main series and not a spin-off like Rising.

As for Platinum Games’ Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance itself, Kojima said he’d be interested in successors to the hack-and-slash game if it performs well commercially.

If it works out well, I really would like to work with Platinum games on a sequel.

On Rising‘s baffling title, Kojima stated:

As far as the Rising part of the title goes, that’s really about rising up the character of Raiden.

As far as Revengeance is concerned this is kind of the an internal thing, but at one point Rising kind of fall apart and we had to start all over from scratch. So it was kind of our goal to make it something like ‘try again’ get vengeance, get our revenge on the old project.

The iconic industry figure went on to brand Metal Gear as a franchise that features installments “where you’re always holding back… and for a lot of people maybe that adds to the stress that they’re experiencing in their every day life.” Thus, Revengeance is “your chance to get revenge on life. Cut everything up into tiny little pieces!”

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is due for a release on February 19th in North America and three days later in Europe. Following that will be Metal Gear Solid 5‘s prequel, the recently announced Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes.
