PlayStation: DriveClub has Gone “Back to the Drawing Board” to Ensure it’s Great

Before we get started with what PlayStation’s Scott Rohde told IGN about DriveClub, it’s worth mentioning that Sony PR did say we’d learn more details about DriveClub’s release date soon. Rohde, however, wouldn’t say if we’d see the racer in 2014.

That being said, PlayStation Software Product Development Head for Sony Worldwide Studios America Scott Rohde did say about Evolution Studios’ DriveClub, which was originally scheduled to launch alongside the PS4 in November 2013, that it’s gone “back to the drawing board.”

Rohde explained what that means and why they did it:

“What I will say is that it all comes back to that fundamental principle, and that’s that we want to build great games. And we really don’t want to release a game before it’s ready. And sometimes, this happens in the normal course of business, where we think we’re on track to deliver what we think is going to be a great game, and when we get closer, we realize that we’d be doing everyone a disservice if we shipped it before it was ready.”

“So, I think that at PlayStation, perhaps more than at other places, we’re willing to kinda eat that [cost], and go back to the drawing board and make sure the game is great before we ship it. And that’s what’s going on right now with that game.”

Once we hear anything more about DriveClub and when it may release, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Do you think Rohde’s comments signal that DriveClub has been pushed back even further? Do you think DriveClub’s Twitter and Facebook accounts being silent since last year is cause for concern? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
