Plants Vs. Zombies Developer PopCap’s Co-Founder Leaves Studio and EA

John Vechey, co-founder of Plants Vs. Zombies and Peggle studio, PopCap, has left the developer as well as its parent company Electronic Arts. He was the last remaining founder still working with the studio. In his letter published on EA’s official blog, Vechey seemed optimistic about PopCap’s future and expressed his faith in EA CEO Andrew Wilson’s ability to take things forward. He wrote:

The future is bright for PopCap. We have some amazing games live, with millions of people enjoying them every day. We have some great games in production, which will surprise and delight players over the coming year. We have a robust prototyping investment, which will fuel new brands and new games for PopCap for years to come. The future is also bright for EA and I continue to believe in [EA CEO Andrew Wilson’s] vision of a company that puts its players first. The best years are ahead for both EA and PopCap, and I look forward to watching development teams live up to what it means to be electronic artists.

PopCap will continue to work on a new Peggle game. Meanwhile, PlayStation 4 players will be able to get their hands on Peggle 2 this October

We wish Vechey the best of luck in his future endeavors.
