Naughty Dog: 80% of PS4 Owners Have Never Played Uncharted

In Sony’s research for the PlayStation 4, they discovered that 40% of buyers never owned a PlayStation 3, which is why you’re seeing remasters like The Last of Us Remastered, God of War 3 Remastered, and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection.

Speaking with MCV about Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, which is out today in Europe and on Friday in North America, Naughty Dog Community Strategist Eric Monacelli revealed that 80% of PS4 owners have never played an Uncharted game:

It’s pretty massive. We did a lot of research and discovered that about 80 per cent of the people that own a PS4 have never played Uncharted, period. That was one of the reasons why we thought remastering it would be a good idea.

The other reason is we decided we wanted to do it; especially when we got The Last of Us Remastered done, we thought, ‘Oh man, this would be cool if we could go back.’

In terms of sales, Monacelli says expectations for The Nathan Drake Collection are high, and they expect it “to do as well as The Last of Us Remastered,” which sold more than one million copies as of September 2014.

Monacelli also teased what’s next for Naughty Dog after Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and the post-launch DLC. Acknowledging The Last of Us 2 rumor, but not going any further, he adds that there’s been a “ton of ideas” thrown around and, “There could potentially be – who knows? We could go back to Jak & Daxter 4 if it seems right, or there could be something else in the future on our horizon.”

Are you in the 20% of PS4 owners who has played an Uncharted game?
