Market intelligence firm, SuperData, claims that Grand Theft Auto Online is earning “more than twice as much” on PlayStation 4 as Xbox One. The company revealed this in a single tweet via its official account but did not go into any further detail.
While we don’t have a break-down, we do know that Grand Theft Auto V has shipped 65 million copies across all platforms as of May 2016. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said that GTA V and GTA Online have exceeded the publisher’s expectations in “every quarter since they released.”
That said, Take-Two was also quick to stress that GTA Online was never meant to be a permanent service despite the online component being one of the largest contributors to the company’s financial results earlier this year. “Not only was it not our intention that GTA Online was permanent but it’s important that it not be permanent,” remarked Zelnick back in June.
