Yooka-Laylee Retail Release Confirmed By Playtonic

Yooka-Laylee, the crowdfunded 3D platformer in development at Playtonic Games, is expected to launch during Q1 2017 and when it does, it’ll be available across retail and digital outlets.

Confirmation of a physical version comes to us via the studio’s latest blog post, revealing that development plans are beginning to coalesce ahead of that aforementioned release window. Per Playtonic: “One such query we’re delighted to tackle today is the ever-booming call for a boxed version of Yooka-Laylee. Do we have plans for a boxed release? Today we can confirm that the answer is, yes!”

We’re delighted to be able to offer Yooka-Laylee in both digital and boxed flavours in time for the game’s launch in Q1 2017. As we speak, our business badgers are busily burrowing away on an initiative that will allow Kickstarter backers to upgrade their digital pledge to a physical version, if they choose to do so. We’re not ready to share the exact details just yet, but very soon you should be able to stick your head in the badger hole and look for yourself.

Following a fairly big showcase at EGX 2016 — the annual UK gaming event hosted the first public hands-on demo — Yooka-Laylee is being prepped for release in Q1 2017.

In case you missed it, the endearing Shovel Knight will cameo in Playtonic’s platformer when it launches next year. You can see him in action, below.
