Skyrim Special Edition Goes Gold, PS4 Storage Requirements Revealed

Just a few days after confirming that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition for PlayStation 4 will include both mod support and PS4 Pro support, Bethesda announced today that the game has gone gold. This means development is complete ahead of Skyrim Special Edition’s release on Friday, October 28.

Additionally, Bethesda revealed that Skyrim Special Edition for PS4 requires 20GB of space in North America and 33GB of space in Europe. The Xbox One version, meanwhile, requires 17GB in North America and 25GB in Europe.

Skyrim Special Edition going gold also marks the first time we’re celebrating a release as an international studio,” the studio added. “We can’t say enough about the hard work and love our Montreal studio poured into this project.”

As a reminder, here’s what’s new in the Special Edition:

  • Mod support on consoles
  • Remastered art and effects
  • Volumetric lighting (“God Rays”)
  • Dynamic Depth of Field
  • Screen-space reflections
  • New snow and water shaders

If you’re planning on getting the digital version of Skyrim Special Edition on PS4, the game will unlock at 12am ET on October 28. Anyone who pre-orders before then will receive the Skyrim Dragon Symbol Theme.
