Yesterday, Studio Wildcard revealed that more than 100,000 people were currently playing ARK: Survival Evolved on Steam at 9:30am PT, setting a new record. Asked about player counts on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, studio co-founder Jeremy Stieglitz said, “We typ have 50k Xbox & 65k PS4 on Sunday so together def over 200k [on all platforms] on ARK at the moment. If only they could all play together hmm!”

Studio Wildcard hasn’t said how many people own ARK: Survival Evolved on PS4, but it was the 11th best-selling game of 2016 through the PlayStation Store in Europe and the #1 best-selling PS4 game of December 2016 through the North American and European PlayStation Stores. It released digitally on December 6, and will have a retail release this spring.

In terms of in-game content, the next ARK: Survival Evolved update should hit PS4 on February 14. Here’s an overview of what to expect:

PS4 Version 504

  • All PC equivalent content up & functionality through v254.x
  • Per-Pixel Painting (Survivors, Dinos, Canvases, etc)!
  • TheCenter Mega Update
  • A Super-Secret New Feature!
  • Primitive+ Mega Update

Some of the highlights from PC v254 include new dinos (Ovis Aries, Basilosaurus, Baryonyx, Purlovia), a Lance for jousting, the ability to use a Shield when Weapon-Riding (provided you are using an appropriate Weapon), Tek Tier Phase 1, and more. There will also be some console optimizations.

Responding to someone who asked for third-person to be added on consoles, Stieglitz said, “Yeah, we’ll go ahead and get third person onto Xbox and PS4 in this upcoming update. You got it.”
