Deus Ex Studio Adding Multiplayer Support to Its Dawn Engine, Giving Birth to a Range of Speculations

Developer Eidos Montreal is looking for a Network Programmer to help add multiplayer support to its Dawn Engine, which powers Deus Ex. Spotted by NeoGAF user Nirolak, the job posting states:

Eidos Montréal is looking for an experienced Network Programmer to support multiplayer development in the Dawn Engine.

You will work on designing, implementing and improving the network layer of the Dawn Engine, as well as support our development teams to adapt to a multiplayer oriented mentality.

Eidos Montreal wants someone who’s not only a multiplayer gamer but also has experience of AAA development, especially on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

This has given birth to all kinds of speculations in light of reports from earlier this year, which claimed that the Deus Ex franchise is being put to a rest. Apparently, majority of Eidos Montreal is helping Crystal Dynamics with Shadow of the Tomb Raider while others are helping them with an Avengers project. Meanwhile, a small team is reportedly working on another Marvel game for Square Enix.

Make of this what you will.

Speaking of online gaming, Dishonored and Prey developer Arkane Studios is also looking for an Online Game Engineer to help develop AAA games on consoles and PC. Going by ZeniMax’s job description, which made rounds last week, it sounds like the studio is working on a service-based model. This doesn’t come as too much of a surprise, however, considering the performance of Arkane’s single-player games at retail.

What do our readers think of these developments?
