Zone of the Enders 3 Exists in a Time and Place Far, Far Away

Zone of the Enders made its presence felt by consumers when it landed on the PlayStation 2 back in 2001. Designed by the one and only Hideo Kojima himself, the title sparked enough interest to drive thousands of PlayStation 3 owners to anticipate a third installment to the nearly decade-old series. In reply, Kojima has since stated that he will look into developing the title but not right away.

Hideo Kojima has confirmed his interest in developing another addition to the Zone of the Enders series. While being interviewed by JeuxFrance, Hideo Kojima stated the following:

“My team and I want to develop a new ZOE…”

He later added:

“…we have not yet had time to work on ZOE 3 which has been postponed at the calendar. However, I think after Rising, I will look seriously ZOE.”

Both previous titles in the series were exclusive to the PlayStation 2 platform so we should expect to see a third installment either exclusively on the PS3 or at the very least multi-platform. Given the scale of the environments in both previous titles, the PS3’s powerhouse hardware can lend itself as a great contributor to meeting Hideo Kojima’s original design intentions. Unfortunately, given the fact that MGS: Rising isn’t set to release for another year, we probably won’t be hearing more about the title until 2012.
