No PSP2 Until the 3DS Hype Dies Down

Rumors of a sequel to Sony’s first try at the hendheld market with the PSP have been staggering for the past few months. Some rumors have pointed to a powerful piece of hardware that will employ powerful Nvidia based hardware, and some have even gone so far as to say that publishers have already seen the device. Whatever the case, Sony has continued to deny rumors and has once again done the same in a recent interview.

While being interviewed, Michael Denny from Sony put the PSP2 rumors to rest and showed confidence in the current generation of Sony handheld hardware. Denny said the following when asked about whether or not a PSP2 is in the works:

“We don’t have anything to announce and nor are we giving anything away if we say we’re always looking at the future as well.”

He then added:

“For now, we’re still concentrating on the PSP as a very attractive proposition.”

PSP2 rumors have been especially common ever since Nintendo announced it’s new handheld, the Nintendo 3DS. It’s certain that Sony has a new handheld device in the pipeline and it’s not far off to think that it might reveal a new device once the prevalent 3DS hype has settled down. Until then, Sony will continue to deny the rumors regarding what some believe will define the next generation of handheld media.
