Sony Puts 12, Including PS2 Game, in Japan’s Top 20 Sellers

Japanese sales authority Media Create has released its hardware and software sales figures, which have handhelds dominating. Check out how awesome the PSP is doing in the far East, with PSP taking the top spot and going on to work nine games into the top 20 — almost half the list. Last week’s PS2 version of Amagami also made things interesting, debuting at number 6 and falling this week to the 20th spot. Still, for a PS2 title, that’s quite the feat.

Here’s the complete list of Japan’s top 20 selling games from April 4-10, with system, sales number (in thousands) and the previous week’s rank included:

01. [PSP] Earth Defence Force 2 Portable – 63.795 thousand copies sold (New on the list)

20. [PS2] Amagami 4.810 (down from #6)

That’s nine PSP titles, three DS games, three for Wii, two for 3DS, two PS3 games, and a PS2 title making up the top 20 in software sales. The hardware sales, on the other hand, looked like this:

PSP 35,478
