Just Add Water has provided some new information about the status of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD for PlayStation Vita, in addition to providing some updates about the status of future Oddworld remakes.
Just Add Water CEO Stewart Gilray and Oddworld creator Lorne Lanning appeared on the PS Blogcast to discuss the Oddworld games and the progress of the Oddworld remakes thus far. Gilray said that work on the Vita version of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD began five and a half weeks ago. An early build already exists of the game and Gilray hopes to have a decent beta created in about four weeks, just prior to E3. The current targeted release date for the game is in late June. He said that QA might say “no” to such a timeframe, but that late June is the current planned release.
Some of the Vita version features mentioned were: transitioning from first person to third person view by double tapping the front touch screen, touching the back panel to perform punches and spins in third person or just perform punches in first person view, and dynamic sniper scope adjustment in coordination with pinch and zoom on the Vita touch screen.
Also, the update for Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD for PS3 that adds 3DTV and PlayStation Move support is coming in late May, according to Gilray.
Gilray also spoke about other games, mentioning that Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee HD, which is four weeks from going to QA, will release in June for PS3. As previously announced, a Vita version is also planned. The game may cost less than Stranger’s Wrath HD, with Gilray mentioning that a $10 price was possible.
Another game mentioned by Gilray was Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, which apparently is getting a “complete reboot” in 2.5D, with Lorne Lanning mentioning a 3D (graphics?) engine and physics being included in the game.
Just Add Water is also working on a revival of Oddworld project Hand Of Odd.
