Arkane: Two Years of Pre-Production was “Crucial” in Developing Dishonored

When we played Dishonored earlier this year, we were impressed by it’s incredible single-player experience. According to Arkane, none of it would have been possible without all the hard work they spent on pre-production.

During Develop 2012, art director Sebastien Mitton discussed the development process of Dishonored, noting that “Pre-production was the crucial element. It’s why the game is here today.” Both Mitton and visual design director Viktor Antonov spent time photographing the alleyways and side-streets of London.

By staying off of the main streets and sticking to more confined areas, they were able to collect information that lends itself to creating a tight and dense game world. “We were trying to design the game from a rat’s viewpoint. If we have a small city, from a constrained viewpoint, what are all the different angles that we can explore?” Mitton added.

Dishonored is set to release this October for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
