Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time Delayed, Won’t Release Until 2013 [Update: Coming Next Feb, Delay Not For Development Reasons]

Sony has revealed today at gamescom that the fourth entry in the Sly Cooper franchise has been delayed to sometime next year.

Update: Sony have sent us the following statement, saying that the delay wasn’t for development reasons and the game will now be coming next February:

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time will be releasing in February 2013 for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. With a robust and diverse catalog of first and third party content launching this holiday season– including Wonderbook: Book of Spells, PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale, Little Big Planet Karting, Assassins Creed III, Assassin’s Creed III Liberation, Madden 13 and Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified – we have decided to release Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time in early 2013 to ensure gamers continue to have a variety of content to enjoy after the holidays and into the New Year.

Original story:

This unfortunate announcement was made via a gameplay trailer for the title which provides us with the ambiguous “Early 2013” release window. On a positive note however, the trailer looks absolutely incredible, making the wait for this game all the more difficult to bear.

Sony offered no explanation as to why the game has been delayed, but it’s safe to assume Sanzaru just needs a few extra months to polish things up.

It was also announced earlier today that Sony will be instituting a “Cross Buy” promotion on select games that are coming to both the PS3 and Vita. Fortunately for all you Sly fans, Thieves in Time is one of them.
