No PlayStation Vita Price Cut This Year, But Sony Working on “Cost Reduction”

Upon being asked if Sony will drop the PlayStation Vita’s price this year, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told Eurogamer that consumers won’t see a price drop this year as it’s still “too early”.

However, Yoshida did stress that Sony is working on cost reduction for the platform:

Of course, cost reduction is one area our engineering team is working on. But we just launched the platform earlier this year. It takes time to do so.

At a certain point in the future we would like to address the pricing issue for some of the people who are waiting. But this year we are trying to add value by creating different types of bundles. We announced we will provide LittleBigPlanet Vita bundle pack. That’s affordable for people who are looking for a good deal.

The executive had recently said that the Vita’s recent poor performance can be improved via a quality software line-up, which is a priority for the firm. Their commitment to the device was clearly evidenced during gamescom where they announced new IPs such as Media Molecule’s Tearaway.
