Lightning Returns to Offer a Shorter Campaign, Encourage Multiple Playthroughs

Just a few days ago, Square Enix announced Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, their third – and allegedly final – entry in the FFXIII series. Aside from the game’s 2013 launch window and a Majora’s Mask inspired game mechanic, not too much was revealed about the game during the franchise’s 25th anniversary celebration.

However, a few additional details have emerged thanks to the latest issue of Famitsu (via Andriasang). According to the outlet, the game will feature a single ending that concludes Lightning’s story in a happy way.

Though oddly enough, the experience itself isn’t going to take players all too long to complete — apparently not even requiring tens of hours of play time. Because of this, Square is aiming to make the game a highly re-playable experience that encourages gamers to go back through the game multiple times.

The game is said to currently be about 30% complete and will take a more “World Driven” approach to gameplay and player interaction.
