Shuhei Yoshida Says Sony Wants to Expand PlayStation Games to More Devices, Considering PC, TVs, Blu-ray Players, Smartphones and Tablets

We’ve already heard a lot about the cloud and the impact it is going to have on the next generation of consoles. On the PlayStation side of things, Gaikai will providing streaming services, although we won’t be getting our hands on those capabilities until 2014. However, SCE Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida talked with Dengeki Online about the broader vision for streaming capabilities.

Speaking of the ultimate goal, we would like to deliver PlayStation games to all devices. So we’re considering various things like PC, TVs, Blu-ray players, smartphones and tablets. We hope to continue to expand not only to Sony devices, but even to devices other than Sony’s. This is still being studied.

We previously spoke about PlayStation going from hardware to something closer to a service, regardless of the device — Of course PlayStation will still be the center, but I think we would like to expand to different things.

With things like PS Vita TV already being announced, Sony is starting to offer that kind of streaming service and we’ll likely see more of that potential once Gaikai is up and running.

What are your thoughts on potentially being able to stream PlayStation games from your tablet, TV, or other devices? Let us know in the comments.
