Dec 30th Update: Please go here for the latest news on the PSN being down.

Bah, humbug. The PlayStation Network is currently suffering from connection issues, with a lot of gamers unable to connect to the network at all.

While this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to long-time PlayStation gamers, with the PSN often going down during major events, it’s still rather annoying – especially now that PS4 online gaming is behind a paywall.

The PSN is listed as having “connection issues”, and often displays the error code 80710092, with Sony saying:

We’re aware some users are having issues connecting to the PSN. We are investigating.

We expect to have the PSN back up soon and apologize for any inconvenience.

Unfortunately, Christmas itself will likely see millions of people logging onto their PS4s for the first time, registering new PSN accounts, downloading updates and games as well as playing online. Oh, and most of Sony’s PSN team are likely off for the holidays.

So don’t hold your breath for smooth online gaming tomorrow.

Christmas Update: Sony is listing the PSN as officially Offline, but we have reports of many users able to connect. At the moment it seems to just be random, so try your luck and hope for the best. Be sure to let us know how it goes!

Boxing Day Update: Sony is aware of the problems, including disappearing Friends Lists, and is investigating.
