PS4 Error Code CE-34878-0 Corrupting Save Files, Sony is Investigating and Offers a Solution

PS4 ‘Error CE-34878-0’ was first brought up in November when Sony detailed a partial way to fix it, then it became more prevalent a month later with Battlefield 4, and had DICE asking people for help on this “general error code that you can receive when the game has crashed for a number of different reasons that are not related.”

Well, the issue seems to extend far past Battlefield 4, with a search on the EU PlayStation forums (via Joystiq) revealing 37 pages of people talking about it affecting game saves in titles like NBA 2K14, FIFA 14, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

Offering a way to fix this problem with ‘Error CE-34878-0’ is LordRoss, PlayStation Community Coordinator:

Hey guys,

If you are experiencing this CE-34878-0 error code, please close the application and then install the latest system software and game patch.

If the error occurs again, initialise the PS4 system after back-up of the save data and please also submit any crash reports after re-booting your console when the error occurs.

Hope that helps.

As Sony told CVG, they “are aware of the cases and we appreciate your patience while we investigate,” with the official PlayStation Support Page for error codes offering up this solution (which expands upon LordRoss’):

Step 1: Close the application, install the latest system software and game update, and restart the system.

Step 2: If the error occurs again, back up your saved data, and then go to [Settings] > [Initialization] and choose [Initialize PS4].

We’ll let you know if there’s any more developments.
