Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Out Today in North America; “We Wanted to Create a Conclusive Title,” Says Kitase

Critics may be all over the place when it comes to Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (it’s sitting at a 68 on Metacritic and our very own Heath Hindman gave it a 4/10), but you finally have the chance to try out the third and final installment of the Final Fantasy XIII series yourself starting today in North America.

Producer Yoshinori Kitase talked about Lightning Returns:

We wanted to create a conclusive title with Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII – one that not only ties up Lightning’s storyline, but also provides players an extremely memorable and aesthetically visual gameplay experience. We thank the community for their invaluable feedback during development, and are excited for fans to dive deep into this new Final Fantasy universe.

There’s also some paid and free DLC that will be available for Lightning Returns when the PlayStation Store updates today. These include the Tomb Raider ‘Lara Croft’ and Yuna ‘Sphere Hunter’ costumes for Lightning, which will cost $3.99 each. Along with the costumes, you also are given free access to the Japanese Voice-Over Pack until February 25th, after which it will be $3.99.
