Dean Hall: DayZ PS4 and Xbox One Versions Could Become a Reality by the Year End, But Not Before PC Version is Finished

PlayStation gamers envious of their friends playing DayZ, might be playing the online game on their PS4s by year’s end. Well, at least if the stars align together.

Speaking to Eurogamer at E3, Dean “Rocket” Hall, the man behind the popular zombie game, believes the DayZ PS4 and Xbox One versions could be a reality by the end of the year; though the ports won’t see the light of day until the PC version is running the way Hall wants it to first.

We’ve toyed around what to do with the console side of things…I think a lot of manufacturers would like to do that kind of stuff. But I think we’d be doing a disservice to the manufacturers and to the community as well. We have to get the core aspects of the game finished before we commit to doing anything. Otherwise you make a big announcement and then you wait for six or 12 months

Hall adds that he wants the console port of the game to make the most of the hardware they’re on, so “there’s a reason for you to buy the game on that console.” Interestingly enough, Hall confirms that we haven’t seen the full power of both now-gen consoles, and that they’re “preparing” something interesting that he can’t talk about just yet.

It needs to utilise something special about it. We need to look at the console and work with the console manufacturer and say, what is the strength of the PS4 and Xbox One, and try and pull that together.

From my understanding, the public hasn’t seen the full power of both those platforms yet,” Hall teased. “There’s stuff they’re preparing on both sides that will be really interesting, particularly how they approach multiplayer. I don’t think I can say, but I’ve been impressed from what I’ve seen, and I’m reasonably difficult to impress because I’m a PC gamer. I don’t own an Xbox One or a PS4. But I like what I’m seeing of their approach.

It needs to utilise something special about it. We need to look at the console and work with the console manufacturer and say, what is the strength of the PS4 and Xbox One, and try and pull that together.

Hall mentions that Sony’swork on the PS3 with CCP regarding Dust 514 has paved the way for early access system on the PS4. And based on a Game Developers Conference presentation by Microsoft, he believes a smiliar model will be coming to the Xbox One as well.

When asked point blank if DayZ was coming to consoles, Hall replied with, “Yeah, I think so,” and adds, “I’m pleased with the direction they’re taking with their consoles. It really does feel like to me that they want to capture what I think is the magic of PC right now. And of course they do, because the benefits of it are massive.”

Hall finishes by saying he’s “cautiously optimistic” on the console version of DayZ, which, as he says, “more than I would have said last year at E3.”

Well, there you have it, folks. It seems DayZ on now-gen is an inevitability. Are you looking forward to it or would you rather H1Z1 be release on the PS4 first?
