Ninja Theory Reveals Canned Next-Gen Game, Says AAA Market Conditions Restrict Creativity

Developer Ninja Theory, which has just revealed Hellblade for the Playstation 4, has also revealed details of a next-gen game that it was hoping would be picked up by publishers, but unfortunately, it wasn’t. Called Razer, the game involved players coming together to “battle a monster that has taken over the planet.” Razer would have included a system for “online melee combat.”

Ninja Theory began prototyping ideas for a PlayStation 4/Xbox One game shortly after the release of DmC: Devil May Cry. When the concept was taken to publishers, it “didn’t survive the greenlight process.”

We took the concept around to publishers but it wasn’t picked up. The conditions of the AAA market mean that creativity can be restricted. We’ll be sharing all of the Razer materials, including all design documents, online next week.

I guess we’ll find out next week what the game was all about.
