Crystal Dynamics Says It Didn’t Intend to Cause Confusion by Rise of the Tomb Raider Exclusivity Announcement

It doesn’t look like Crystal Dynamics anticipated such a strong reaction from the gaming community to its Rise of the Tomb Raider exclusivity deal with Microsoft. Since the gamescom 2014 announcement, the developer has been struggling to respond to questions. On the official Tomb Raider tumblr page, the company claims that it didn’t intend to cause any confusion with the way the announcement was made.

We certainly didn’t intend to cause any confusion with the announcement. The Microsoft Gamescom stage was a great place to make the initial announcement, but not necessarily to go into details.

When asked if the franchise’s fans were taken into consideration before making the deal and if both, the developer and publisher Square Enix were aware of the series’ history on PlayStation consoles, Crystal Dynamics said:

Of course. We did not make this decision lightly. Our goal is to build the best game that we possibly can, and our relationship with Microsoft will help us realize our vision for the game.

Gauging the comments on the blog, it looks like no one bought it.
