TGS 2015: 40% of Games Exhibited Were Mobile, Action is the Most Popular Genre

A list of trending platforms and genres obtained by media during the Tokyo Game Show 2015 reveals that 40 percent of the 1,283 games exhibited during the event were mobile titles. PC accounted for 186 games (including Steam and browser games), and a total of 244 games were on display for all current-gen consoles and handhelds combined. The full breakdown is as follows:

Other smartphones – 6 games
Feature phone – 8 games
Nintendo 3DS – 29 games
Wii U – 23 games
Wii – 1 game
PlayStation 4 – 103 games
PlayStation 3 – 39 games
PlayStation Vita – 62 games

Xbox One – 27 games
Xbox 360 – 7 games
PC – 135 games
PC Browser Games – 28 games
Steam – 23 games
Others – 287 games

This doesn’t come as a surprise considering the recent push into the mobile market in Asia. Many companies including Konami have said that the mobile segment continues to grow in the region as gamers are increasingly shifting to this market. We’re also seeing an increasing number of games being cancelled for handhelds, and instead, being released on mobile platforms. The most recent example of this is Final Fantasy Agito, which was recently cancelled for the PlayStation Vita, reborn as Final Fantasy Type-0 Online for PC and mobiles. 

In terms of genres, Action had the highest representation at this year’s TGS, followed by role-playing and simulation. The full list is as follows:
