Releasing throughout the day on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the latest Need for Speed update is titled Legends and sees the return of Eddie, new items, new Trophies/achievements, improvements, the ability to mute phone calls, and more.
Reportedly a 1GB download, here’s what you need to know about today’s Need for Speed Legends update:
The Return of Eddie
There aren’t many characters in Need for Speed history who are as legendary as Eddie. After a decade of doing his own thing, he’s back, and heading straight towards Ventura Bay.
He’s put together a list of the hottest street racers in Ventura Bay and you’re on it! He isn’t alone though as he’ll be accompanied by Melissa. She’ll be in touch as you look to compete in a series of knock-out events to earn a shot at Eddie himself, with the goal of walking away with his tricked out Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec (1999).
Customization Items
One of the key bits of feedback we’ve been receiving is that you’d like to see some more customization parts – and that’s exactly what we’re giving to you! We’ll be adding 113 new items, spread across six cars that we felt needed some love in the visual customization department: Dodge Challenger SRT8, Ford Mustang 1965, Honda Civic Type-R, Lotus Exige S, Volkswagen Golf GTI, Volvo 242
Decals
Love creating your own wrap? You may be wondering if we’re going to be adding in any new decals to the game. If so, you’ll be pleased to know that we’ve got a bundle of new decals on the way to make your one of a kind ride even more unique. With over 200 decals being added there’s something for every ride.
Maximum REP increase
We increased the REP limit from 50 to 60 in the Icons update and will be doing the same again in Legends. With an increase up to REP level 70, you’re going to be able to head back onto the streets, earn REP and along the way unlock new decals.
For each REP level you gain between 61 and 70 you will unlock a brand new decal. From a Speedhunters heart to Drift Punk logo, there’s something to help finish off your latest wrap design. We’re big fans of the fish at REP level 67, keen an eye out for that one!
Collectables
We’re expanding on our list of collectables too. First up is a brand new type for you to seek out and add to your collection.
Urbex Spots are located across Ventura Bay and can include; graffiti murals, statues and other interesting details you may have missed when travelling past at 200mph. There are ten in total, just waiting for you to find.
We’re also adding in 12 new donor cars. Finding these will unlock one of the new pieces of customization that we are adding into this update. Track them down and add their parts to your inventory.
Achievement and Trophies
Three new achievements and trophies will be unlockable, go out and earn them:
- Zero to hero – Win a race while driving Eddie’s car
- Eddie is back – Win Eddie’s progression
- Hit the ceiling – Get to REP level 70
Brake Discs and Calipers
Fans who have been with us since the day we announced will have noticed we talked about the option to customize brake discs and calipers. We’ve applied the necessary polish and made the required tweaks and can now confirm that both of these customization options will also be included within the Legends update.
Daily Challenges
More daily challenges are the on way and will give you even more new ways to hit your monthly rank targets.
General bugs, tweaks and improvements
We’ve squished a number of bugs and made improvements across a variety of areas, including AI.

10 PS4 Games That Could Be Better With Project Morpheus
-
ABZÛ
Matt Nava's work at thatgamecompany was beyond impressive, but ABZÛ takes exploration to a new level. This beautiful game about sea exploration is possibly the best looking PS4 title, and we would love to experience it in virtual reality. Imagine wearing Project Morpheus while swimming with schools of fish and during close encounters with sharks!
-
The Witness
Jonathan Blow has been working on The Witness for a long time now. The puzzle game, which sports over 670 puzzles, looks extremely promising. Hopefully the considerable development time will allow the game to support Project Morpheus, as we would love to explore the title's beautiful environment in virtual reality!
-
Surgeon Simulator
Few games are as hilarious as Surgeon Simulator. Sure, you might end up botching a surgery, but that is most of the fun! Throw in the ability to go on a complete trip and Surgeon Simulator is a great candidate to be played in Project Morpheus. This is one experience that would only be made even wackier by virtual reality.
-
DriveClub
DriveClub may have not been the hit that Sony and Evolution Studios were hoping for, but it is still a solid driving game. One way to reinvigorate interest in the title would be to patch in Project Morpheus support in the future. Driving through beautiful race tracks at high speed sounds like a lot of fun either in real life or virtual reality!
-
Volume
Mike Bithell's Volume releases in August and the stealth game has plenty of gamers excited. With its unique aesthetic, Volume seems to be a great candidate to receive Project Morpheus support. Few genres seem like they could benefit more from virtual reality more than stealth. So hopefully we'll see what it can do for the genre soon!
-
Mirror's Edge Catalyst
One of the first things that fans did once the Oculus Rift was available was to patch in VR support for Mirror's Edge on PC. Since the demand is already there, it would be a shame if Mirror's Edge Catalyst did not support Project Morpheus. Parkour in a virtual space has a ton of potential, and it would be awesome to see Faith's latest adventure in VR!
-
Thumper
Developer Drool describes Thumper as "rhythm violence", and that description is spot-on. Few games offer up such an intense audio and visual experience as Thumper does, so we would love to see what the game could do if it supported Project Morpheus.
-
Destiny
Few first-person shooters have proved to be as addicting as Destiny, so we can only imagine how engrossing Bungie's game would be in Virtual Reality. Who wouldn't want to strap on a headset, explore planets and participate in raids?
-
Until Dawn
In its current state Until Dawn is one of the most intense and startling games ever to exist. This E3 2015 highlight could bring dramatic situations to life if it used Project Morpheus. We're not sure we would want to see the jump scares, though!
-
Alien: Isolation
Few games are as frightening as 2014's Alien: Isolation. With a terrifying Alien stalking you throughout the space ship, there was never a dull moment. Isolation could be even scarier if it used Project Morpheus!
