Sony Announces Partnership With Kojima Productions, First New IP to Be “Console Exclusive” to PS4

Confirming the report from yesterday, Hideo Kojima has indeed set up a new studio with former Kojima Productions staff and is indeed making his first game to be released first on PlayStation platforms.

In a press release sent over by Sony, PlayStation President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Andrew House announces Sony’s partnership with Hideo Kojima via a video, which you can watch above (yes, it has subtitles). Hideo Kojima also confirmed that Kojima Productions is indeed working on a new franchise “with PlayStation.”

Check out the official announcement statements from both House and Kojima below.

Andrew House: PlayStation®’s history is one of game innovation and great new franchises…Hideo Kojima has been a huge part of that history, and we are therefore delighted that he has chosen to bring his brand new project to life in partnership with PlayStation. We look forward to working with him on an exciting new game and warmly welcome him to the PlayStation family.

Hideo Kojima: I will be taking on a new challenge by establishing my own independent studio, and I am thrilled to be able to embark on this journey with PlayStation, who I have continued to work with all these past years. I cannot wait to deliver, with PlayStation, a game that will become a compelling franchise.

Here’s Kojima Productions’ new logo:

Does this mean we’ll get a new stealth-action game on the PlayStation 4 albeit with no Metal Gear Solid branding? Will the P.T. demo finally see a real game released on PS4? We can’t say for certain just now. All I know is, it’s certainly an exciting time to be a PlayStation fan now, and kudos for Sony for snatching up Kojima swiftly. I can’t wait to see what Hideo and his staff will develop now that they’re not encumbered by Konami.
