NetherRealm’s Ed Boon Teases “Big” Mortal Kombat XL News Coming

Creative Director at NetherRealm Studios and Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon has been dropping quite a number of teases regarding Mortal Kombat X and likewise Mortal Kombat XL on Twitter. He’s posted a number of polls asking for inputs on which characters to buff in Mortal Kombat XL, and then he dropped the following Twitter tease last night:

At San Diego Comic Con this week, NetherRealm has a panel planned for Injustice 2, which includes unveiling two new characters. Most likely, such an announcement for MKXL will not take place then, unless they slip it in at the very end. Of course, there is also the possibility that the two new characters for Injustice 2 will be cross-over characters from MKXL, which we most certainly hope does not happen. The last thing any Mortal Kombat fan needs is a return of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe

We also hope that such “big MKXL news” is not simply which characters are getting buffed and nerfed. While that is indeed news, it hardly classifies as big news.

Mortal Kombat XL is essentially a Game of the Year edition of Mortal Kombat X that includes all of the previously released DLC  for the original title as well as Kombat Pack 2 DLC and netcode improvements. MKXL can be purchased separately or as an add-on for the original game. It released on March 1, 2016.
