Rainbow Six Siege Season 3 Content Arrives on August 2, New Operators Detailed

Ubisoft announced today that Rainbow Six Siege Season 3 will begin on August 2 with the release of the Operation Skull Rain expansion for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Along with a free map, Operation Skull Rain also includes two new Operators: Caveira and Capitão, who are both from Brazil’s Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais (BOPE). Rainbow Six Siege Season Pass owners will receive instant access to both Operators on August 2, and will have exclusive access to them for the first seven days.

Here’s what you need to know about the Operators:

  • Caveira – Caveira is the defensive Operator of the two. As such, she possesses the “Silent Step” skill that enables her to sneak up on enemies to immobilize and then interrogate them to reveal their teammates’ location. Her arsenal includes an M12 and SPAS-15 for primary weapons, a PRB92 as a secondary, and Nitro Cell C4 and Barbed Wire for gadgets.
  • Capitão – As the attacker, Capitão carries a tactical crossbow that can fire asphyxiating bolts that burn oxygen within a certain radius, as well as micro smoke grenades that can mask positions and team movements. Capitão also has an M-249 and PARA-308 for primary weapon options, a PRB92 for secondary, and frag and stun grenades rounding her available arsenal.

As for the new map, which is set in a Brazilian favela, it will be free to all players and supports exterior shell destruction, making it Siege’s most destructible map yet.

Elsewhere with Season 3, a Tactical Realism custom game mode will be introduced, preventing players from marking enemies, allowing only the timer, compass, gadget, and weapon panels to be visible in the HUD. Tactical Realism also removes kill confirmations and uses more realistic magazine management.

You’ll also find a new angled grip attachment (makes the transition between hip fire and ADS much faster) and new surrender system (your team can surrender during a ranked match with a majority vote, but only before the third round) next week. Other tweaks include improved Kill cam accuracy and dynamic clipping for skinned objects to reduce body parts leaking through walls and shields.

In terms of improving the game’s health, Ubisoft is integrating an additional anti-cheat system with Season 3. Titled BattleEye, it’s described as a “client-side anti-cheating system that prevents players from loading the game when detecting cheats.”

Expect more details and a live demo of Operation Skull Rain on July 30 during the Xbox Pro League.

Provided nothing’s changed, the fourth season of Rainbow Six Siege should begin in October 2016.
