Report: Assassin’s Creed Empire’s Release Title Will Be Assassin’s Creed Origins

E3 2017 is around the corner and as usual, Ubisoft is expected to drop a couple of announcements during the event. Although the developer has kept mum about what’s in store, rumor mills suggest that we’ll see new Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed titles.

Let’s focus on the Assassin’s Creed rumor for a bit. Reports pertaining to a title that’s code named Empire and set in Egypt have been circulating the web for ages. Today’s update comes via Reddit user Sirusavath who claims to work for a company that makes pre-order info materials for retailers. According to him, Ubisoft has placed orders for Far Cry 5 and Assassin’s Creed Origins, the latter of which came with “tentative artwork” that revealed “it’s the Egypt game that has been rumored to be called Empire.”

When contacted by a Reddit mod for further info, the user said:

I didn’t get to look at it for long but it was art for a reservation card for a US retailer. The game is called Assassin’s Creed Origins and looks very much like it’s set in Egypt. The artwork had a city with a pyramid in the background. In the center of the card there is the new assassin walking towards the city. It looked like he was carrying a shield, a bow, and he had a hawk of some sort on his shoulder. Last bit of note is the reservation is for the Gold edition of the game which has the base game, the season pass and comes in a steelbook packaging. No idea what the price will be. This isn’t the first time that I’ve found out about a game thanks to my work and in past experiences the game is usually announced before our printer ships the cards, or shortly after. I believe these are scheduled to be shipped on the 30th so the official announcement should come by then.

Reddit mods note that Sirusavath has been a regular user of the site for five years with a good record, which gave him some credibility. However, as soon as news started to make rounds on the web, he deleted his profile as some people pointed out that he gave a very specific description of his line of work (meaning, his company could get in trouble with Ubisoft). Others weren’t convinced, however, and thought he made the rumor up.

Reddit mod, dirtminer6, later added a note to the thread to quell people’s fears about the rumor being fake. He asked readers to be patient and to trust this one so it seems that we might be on to something here. “Fellas your patience will soon be rewarded,” wrote the mod. “Trust me on this. I promise you.” It’s unclear if the rumor has been verified in private or not.

No further details are available about Far Cry 5 at this time.
