NieR: Automata Developer PlatinumGames Teasing New IP

NieR: Automata studio PlatinumGames confirmed at this year’s BitSummit that it’s working on a new IP. Producer Atsushi Inaba teased the announcement during a keynote but remained secretive about it.

According to IGN, Inaba described the yet-to-be-revealed title as “formless” but did say that a new Director is working on the project. Additionally, we’re told that Platinum isn’t sure if it will continue with its release pace of launching a new game every year.

The studio suffered a bit of a setback earlier this year due to the high-profile cancellation of its Xbox-exclusive, Scalebound. CEO Kenichi Sato said that the team was disappointed by the development and promised to continue delivering high-quality games. Microsoft recently renewed its Scalebound trademark, giving birth to speculations that the project may still see the light of day.

Platinum’s recent release, NieR: Automata, launched worldwide in March to critical acclaim.

We’ll update our readers when we have more information. In the meantime, let us know what you’re hoping to see next from the studio.
