Update (July 13): Hino confirmed that Ni no Kuni II won’t feature multiplayer content.
Original Story: Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is set to introduce a lot of new things to the series including new characters, new mechanics, and, surprisingly, online multiplayer, according to an official Bandai Namco interview with Level-5 President and CEO Akihiro Hino.
Yes, there will be multiplayer. You will be able to play online with your friends in various capacities.
Hino did not go into detail about what kind of multiplayer gameplay people can expect from the game but it looks like there will be multiple ways to play with your friends in Ni no Kuni II.
Additionally, here’s what Hino said when asked about old characters from the series making a comeback in the sequel:
Although I can confirm that there will be all sorts of cool characters in this sequel, for now the characters that are returning will remain secret. I would love for our fans to play the game and enjoy the surprises.
So while we don’t know who exactly will be making a return in Ni no Kuni II, we can at least expect that at least a few old characters will be in the game.
Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is scheduled for release on November 10, 2017, for the PlayStation 4 and other platforms.
