God of War Ragnarok Dev Responds to Trolls Complaining About Angrboda’s Race

The internet has no shortage of dramatic trolls looking for opportunities to come out of the woodworks. This time, they’re upset about God of War Ragnarok‘s depiction of Angrboda, who’s shown as a black character. Thus followed their complaints about “woke agenda.”

According to Twitter intellectuals, black people never existed in Norse mythology and there were no black Vikings – claims disputed by actual historians. As a result, they are angry about Santa Monica Studio‘s representation of Angrboda. So much so that they are trying to school developers…and getting appropriately shut down.

“Do they also have blue Dwarves in Norse mythology?” writer and story lead Matt Sophos asked one troll. “Was Loki the son of a Greek demigod? Please show me in the Eddas where it says that all Jötunn were lily white? Let me save you the time… you can’t. I’ve read them.”

The troll wasn’t having it. They catapulted themselves into the future to posit that God of War‘s eventual Egyptian series won’t have white mythological characters to avoid double standards.

“You do know Jötunn aren’t real right?” Sophos continued. “They can be anyone or anything? Some are even giant serpents? But I get it. You were only okay with Jörmungandr because his scales were white, right? Well, good luck to you. Hope you can find a game that better fits your sensibilities.”

There are many things one can aspire to be when they grow up. Just don’t be like FirstName BunchaNumbers on Twitter.

God of War Ragnarok is in development for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, and has yet to be dated. We certainly can’t wait to see how it will turn out.
